September 15, Sunset

Last night's Longmont sunset. Notice Longs Peak...it's one of the tallest mountains in the photo...a bit to the left of the tall tree. It was pretty cool to finally get up there after living in its shadow for 7 years.

June 25, Hmmm...

Well I did take a few photos on Friday, but they seem to be missing. I will have to keep an eye out for them, and will post if I locate them. I have a feeling I reformatted the cards for weekend photoshoots.

Meanwhile, I am keeping my fingers crossed that Google chooses Longmont as the city to host a high-speed fiber optic project. Our internet connection can be pretty slow at times, and I am hoping that we are chosen so that I can do more photo stuff without annoying lags, and so that my Netflix Xbox viewing experience will be more seamless. Longmont held a message-to-Google event that I may have participated in, had it not been on a Friday afternoon at 11 a.m.

Some days I have certain photos in mind, and it is when I go and take them, I find cooler things.

Both photos were taken on my evening walk. I couldn't decide. I know which one my mom would prefer!

Take a look at today's found object, taken in an alley in my Longmont neighborhood, versus yesterday's found object, the creek cairns on Boulder. Longmont, Boulder. Longmont, Boulder. I'm just sayin'.

(Don't be confused by the rogue Boulder Theater post. I am not sure how to move that post to the correct date slot.)

February 27, Dickens

Went out in Longmont on Saturday to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a delicious meal at my favorite restaurant Terroir. This year they are participating in the Denver Restaurant Week deal, so it was 52.80/couple for three courses. A great cause! After dinner, we went to the Dickens Tavern to continue the festivities.

Chloe, I don't think we're in Annapolis anymore.

Chloe and I went for a walk, and I took many great shots thanks to the bright setting sun that decided to peak out of the clouds. I had a hard time picking what picture to post, but I went with my roots--sailing. Well, I am not a sailor, but I am from Annapolis, and I did go to one of the top sailing colleges in the country (when Rob and I make our yearly trek to the reservoir to sail, this always comes up, but it doesn't seem to help my ability). Seeing big boats in Colorado always makes me laugh.

First, happy birthday to two friends--Sharita and Steph. Cheers!

In 1989 I was in Disney World with my grandparents, upset that I was missing Sharita's special day. But happy to be in Orlando, Florida.

Today's photo was taken at the newish Oskar Blues restaurant here in Longmont. Fried pickles! The best buffalo wings! Sweet potato fries! It is pretty good bar food, and it is getting easier and easier to get a table. We are pretty lucky to be so close to the OB experiences...both restaurants and the fun Tasty Weasel tasting room.

A whole month of blog posts! At this point, maybe I should mention that I am not after capturing the most profound shot every day...or else I wouldn't even know how/where to get started. My goal is simply to use my camera everyday. I am getting better at carrying it wherever I go...of course, I didn't bring it on my rock climbing day, and I forgot the batteries/memory card when I was in Denver on Friday...but, still, I am just trying to take photos everyday. Some I like more than others, for sure. If you are so inclined, I would love to know your favorite to date.

January 30, Golden West Milling Co

abandoned building

I ran around Longmont this morning, visiting some stores that I've been meaning to get to: Serendipity (a vintage/antique store), the Cheese Importers (great cheeses, sandwiches, and dishes), Home Depot...At any rate, I drove down a street I haven't been on before, and came across this abandoned building.

The Golden West Milling Company was started by two "Charleys", Charles A. Johnson and Charles A. Miller, around the turn of the previous century. Both guys hailed from Sweden, and upon meeting, became business partners until their deaths in 1955. The city of Longmont was considering moving a museum there, but then two teens decided to light the place on fire last year.

January 25, Water Tower

Took a walk through the 'hood this evening and strolled by the water tower. Someone needs to get up there and repaint that American flag. And in case you've always wondered about water towers, check out this wiki link to everything you want to know and more. Except how to paint them. I wouldn't want that scary job.

Ooh, as I type I am listening to a song I like on iTunes. I wasn't sure the artist, so I took a look. Hackensaw Boys. "Sun's Work Undone." And their album art appeared. And guess what it is? A water tower. And on it is written "Love What You Do." The end.

I love this red truck that was parked just a few blocks from my home.
