Thanks to some friends, I made it to a real live swimming pool at least once this summer (as opposed to swimming in one of Colorado's creeks/rivers/hot springs/reservoirs).

What a Saturday! Out to breakfast with Rob and a friend, then to Lyons for a dip in the St. Vrain at the October hole to cool off from the 96 degree heat, then up to Nederland where the temperature was about 25 degrees to cooler to visit some friends and be a porch person, then back down to the Front Range to catch the tail end of a Fantasy Football draft party. And I even saw fireworks!

I took so many photos yesterday that I couldn't decide what to pick for this blog, so I am posting a bunch from Nederland. I love taking photos of folks/animals on the porch. So many textures, so many lines, and friendship.

August 24, Homerun

Rob and I headed to the Rockies game on Tuesday night. It was fun to eat a brat, drink cheap beer, and take in the sites at Coors Field, but it feels a little hollow to cheer on the National League Rockies. Give me the American League and my old Orioles team please...not the current 33 GB gang. Cal Ripken Jr! Chris Hoiles! Mike Devereaux! Brady Anderson! Randy Milligan!

August 23, Leaves

I took Chloe for a walk at dusk on Monday, and she was not happy with me. Ever since the Fourth of July, she has refused to take walks in the dark. Last week I couldn't even get her to go outside. On Monday, she kept looking behind her and tried to guide me home. The fireworks have scarred her more than they have in the past--or is that what happens when your best bud gets older?

Went out to the Med for Happy Hour Friday night, and got to enjoy an extra dirty martini. This one was almost too salty! That's a first.

August 19, Zucchini

I had myself an evening. I took Chloe for a walk in the drizzle, read a few chapters in a book, flipped through a magazine, played the banjo, and cooked a zucchini that seemed to turn into a monster overnight. I transformed it into Zucchini Parm, but even with all that frying and baking, it was still a bit tough. Better get to the next ones earlier!

August 18, Plate

I finally cooked dinner again; it's been a while. I made pasta in an onion/sun-dried tomato/cream sauce and green beans with red pepper flakes. It was rich and tasty! Most of the ingredients came from the farmer's market.

I was lucky enough to shoot the lovely Anna's senior portraits. She was a joy to photograph, and I especially loved our indoor setting. Good luck to her on her senior year! May it be the best year yet!

August 15, Dog

Another animal shot! This one was taken with two flashes: one has the Honl grid on it, aimed at the dog's face, the other flash was bouncing off the ceiling. I would have liked to experiment a bit more, but my friend decided he'd had enough, and he wandered away on me.

August 14, Dog and Cat

Last night I played around with my new Honl 1/8 speed grid on one of my speedlites (which is just a Canon flash that you attach to your camera). The speed grid consists of many cells that narrow the light beam of the flash, thus highlighting Chloe's face and a circle around her in this photo. It was tough to aim the flash/grid on moving subjects in dim light. I chose this shot because of Harry sniffing around in the background.

August 13, Bench

I love taking photos of multiple animals--it just has to make you laugh. Getting three dogs to sit next to each other, not move, and look at the camera is next to impossible, but fun to try to achieve. The dogs weren't sitting close enough together on the ground, so we got them up on this huge bench that must have been built for Paul Bunyan.

August 12, Feet

I broke my biggest promise to myself: I am posting a feet only photo on my blog. Sorry to subject you to this image, but it's all I have for last Thursday. Rob and I have been coming and going and coming and going since the 4th of July. It was nice to have a night with him, although I spent a lot of our time trying to catch up on some photo things. Can't wait to see him again later today!

I went to Telluride for a few days to spend time with friends and music. Because I was camping in a festive spot and because I could not bring my camera into the music venue, I decided to not bring a DSLR, which was an agonizing decision for me. So I shot pictures with an old digital point and shoot and my iPhone.

August 7, Strobist

Hotel chandeliers. I took a photo workshop on lighting led by David Hobby last Saturday in Denver. David Hobby runs the extremely informative Strobist website, and it was fun to be a complete photo nerd for several hours. I wished I could have joined the group for post-lecture beers, but had to head up to the mountains with friends.

Ah, technology. Last night some friends and I had a meeting with other friends in San Francisco. The friends on each computer screen could not see each other until we moved the monitors to face each other. Cutting edge! We "got together" to plan for an upcoming trip to Telluride. It was pretty funny.
