It got close to 8o today! I enjoyed the weather by eating lunch outside, running at Chautauqua, and then sunning in a lounge chair in the backyard.

I had a photo shoot with a toddler this morning, and it was a lot of fun. He was very certain of what he wanted to do--play with a car, eat a banana, and go home. Luckily, he did pose for some photos in the midst of this. I am posting an outtake from the shoot.

March 26, Fleming's Birthday

I had a great day yesterday.

A few friends and I headed up to A-basin to shred it. Ha, ha! I had four runs in me before I succumbed to the call of a Bloody Mary. I was proud that we made it up there since the idea of skiing in cold weather on icy snow has kept me away too much this season. The snow is much better now...more like Colorado instead of Ski Liberty.

After that, it was to Denver to surprise a friend on his birthday. Kate did a great job organizing the party, and it was really nice to see everyone together again--it has been too long. I took a bunch of pictures, but not as many as I could have. I enjoyed talking to folks I haven't seen in a while, and didn't want to be behind a camera all night. The above shot is my favorite; it makes me laugh.

Oh, it's my high school senior shot again, 13 years later.

Having some fun with my new backdrops and practicing self-portraits.

This is the view from my work, pretty much. Covered in yesterday's snow.

Yesterday was Rick's birthday. We tried to get to a restaurant in Louisville to celebrate, but couldn't get out of Boulder due to a snowstorm. We tried for about 45 minutes, but the traffic was endless, so we turned back to Boulder for din din.

March 22, Flower

I have been looking for signs of spring for a couple weeks now. Our yard seems to be devoid, except for the lilac bushes that have are starting to bud. And for this flower.

A friend hosted a spring celebration yesterday, and it was a lot of fun. Out with the old, and in with the new! We lingered into the night, and I had my very first bonfire of 2010 complete with Reese's Peanut Butter Cup S'mores. I enjoyed taking photos so much, that I am posting several.

March 20, Harry

computer camera self-portrait with cat

Well, it has been a laidback day. I started making greeting cards for my FIP fundraiser. I took a bath. I looked at old documents and photos of Rob's family, which prompted me to research my own family tree again. I ate French Onion dip and lots of chips. I watched Mad Hot Ballroom (loved it!) and an episode of This American Life on Rob's laptop while lying in bed. I was feeling too lazy to get up, so I used the laptop camera to take this bad/noisy shot of Harry and me chilling. Harry's been snuggling a lot more since we had to put Oscar down. I think he misses the little guy too.

Take a look at today's found object, taken in an alley in my Longmont neighborhood, versus yesterday's found object, the creek cairns on Boulder. Longmont, Boulder. Longmont, Boulder. I'm just sayin'.

(Don't be confused by the rogue Boulder Theater post. I am not sure how to move that post to the correct date slot.)

We've had some visitors this week--a friend from college, his wife, and their daughter have been in town scoping out the frontrange. On Monday evening, we took a stroll down Pearl Street and then ate at Sherpa's. I haven't been on Pearl Street in a while, and don't think I've been to Sherpa's since my birthday dinner. It is a nice change of pace to have visitors...I've enjoyed a bit more relaxation than normal, and I've been talking about all of my favorite Colorado things, which makes me happy.

So, a friend and I met at Eben G. Fine Park after work to run up the Boulder Canyon on this fine 68 degrees day. I got there a tad early and discovered photo op heaven--someone (Has Andy Goldsworthy been hanging out here?) had built many, many cairns (or carns, as they refer to them in Ireland) on the Boulder Creek. Lucky me!

Today I got ready for guests, ran 6 miles in the light snow, and took some photos of greeting cards for my new Etsy shop. The store is a work in progress; it is one of the things that I have been working on in my spare time. I will be hosting a fundraiser through my shop to raise money for FIP research. March 13, Hike

© 2010 Susannah Storch

I found myself at Chautauqua again today. Some friends and I joined the throngs to take a hike in the beautiful weather. Andrea was nice enough to let me snap this photo of her--I love the lighting in it. And I love this weather!

Boy, we have sure hit the weather jackpot lately. So I went to Chautauqua and felt happy to be alive. This is a shot of the playground there.

Shots from the cube. My office keyboard is the best...when you type, it makes gratifying little clicks. My home keyboard stinks. It is an Apple keyboard with shallow buttons and it is easy to miss the correct key for some reason.

I drove past my old house today after I went to Fleet Feet Sports in the Ideal Market area to buy a new pair of running shoes. (I love supporting them. They are SO nice, and I used to take the most affordable yoga class EVER there with running shoes dangling over my head while I did downward dog. Yes!) My old home was in the best part of Boulder--I could walk to Pearl Street, I could hike Sanitas, I could run Dakota Ridge, I could vary my walks with Chloe to keep them interesting, I could walk to Ideal Market for groceries or Noodles or Radda (or the Masa Grill when they had the $1 taco nights!). I definitely miss the Boulder lifestyle, but owning a nice home in Longmont works too!

March 9, Berries

I am not sure if these are leftover berries or new spring berries. I think they are leftovers, but they still look pretty to me. And can I just say thank you for the warmer weather we've been having?!

March 8,

Okay, so I skipped one day. On one hand, I think: Why didn't I just snap one picture? On the other hand, I know that I needed to take care of the menagerie and myself, and snapping even one photo just wasn't in the cards.

But, I will use this space to share an awesome website: 20x200. All I can say is if you thought art isn't affordable, you're wrong! For $150, you can buy two prints of one of William Wegman's Weimaraner's! And that is on the pricey end. For $20, you can purchase the beautiful photo pictured below. The photographer is Mike Sinclair. I am not familiar with his work, but look at those lights! The sky! The dry western landscape! The Christmas trees!

Okay, enough with the exclamation points, but what a great site to buy gifts for your friends and yourself.

This afternoon, I decided to explore a new area with Chloe. I saw Pella Crossing on the Boulder Open Space website, and checked it out since it isn't far--just south of Hygiene off of N 75th Street. There are a couple trails to choose from that wind around several ponds. The birds were out in full force, chirping away, and I felt reassured that spring is coming.

March 6, Oscar

Oscar isn't feeling well, and he may not be around much longer. Today he found a warm spot in the sun, and I think it made him feel a bit better. He is one mighty fine kitten, and we love him so much. Life is crazy.

Chloe illegally snuggled on the love seat yesterday evening, and all I did was take her photo. And then I fed her ground turkey and tuna in oil in addition to her dog food! We've been super pet-centric around here lately.

Britt Ripley

Hello all.

I have been taking some photos these last few days, but hanging out with our sick little kitten seems more important than hanging out with my computer. I will post them one of these days.

Besides that, I wanted to share the work of another photographer, Britt Ripley, with you. When I participated in the Boulder Art Association show at Chautauqua last summer, there was this amazing photo of a horse (okay, it may not be the actual linked photo, but it was from the same series). The colors, the tonal range were absolutely beautiful. I enjoy visiting Britt Ripley's website every now and again to see. The gallery at his site Alluring Beauty has the MOST beautiful photos of flowers that I have ever seen. Check it out!

March 2, Patchouli

Today was not a good day--Oscar's blood work/test results are bleak. Our little kitten friend may not make it. Taking photos was not a priority, but I did wander around the kitchen for a couple minutes with my camera. I chose to take a couple shots of my patchouli plant. It looks rather grim, and people tell me to get rid of it. But, it hangs on month after month, and has even started to sprout new baby leaves.

Our kitten Oscar has had a fever for a little while now, and tomorrow we get the blood work back. Keep your fingers crossed for only good news. Harry would really like his playmate back so that he doesn't have to resort to male modeling for entertainment.
