December 30, Sitting

Well, we finally got ourselves a real snowstorm out here in Colorado. And no one loves snow as much as my best bud Chloe Storch. When I got home from work yesterday, she was acting pretty pathetic, wanting to get out to play in the white stuff. Not me--I needed a nap before dealing with the arctic temps. This is what I saw as my eye lids grew heavy: Chloe watching the snowflakes fall outside the window, and Harry trying to figure out what Chloe was up to. I am happy I at least had my iPhone handy to take the shot; getting out of bed surely would have disturbed them. After my nap, by the way, I did take Chloe out in the very cold weather to run free up and down the fairways of the golf course that is right near our house.

It snowed a little in Maryland, but not enough to keep me there a few extra days. Bummer!

I've been enjoying my visit to Maryland. As always, it is great to see family, the water, and eat crab products! Here's my sister chilling by the Severn River.

December 20, Cat

I was hoping to take a fabulous shot of tonight's eclipse, but since I don't really have the proper gear for that, and since I don't really know if I will be up and wanting to take photos after 11 p.m., I figured I'd better shoot my pesky cat just in case. Another high ISO shot.

December 19, Arrow

When you live in Colorado, you head west for fun. The only time you head east is to hit up the airport, or else to drive to the East Coast. Except for me last Sunday. I took 119 across I-25 and 85 to do a little exploring. It is a different world out there, let me tell you. Flat, dry, nothing. I love it, except the smell.

December 18, Camel

Another holiday shot taken at a high ISO...this is a camel that my dad gave me and behind it is an paper ornament Rob made when he was little.

I stopped by Fairview High after going running with a girlfriend to snap this shot. We had 60 degree weather for a bit of last week, but it was snowy and cold on our run. Go us!

This is what was waiting for me at my door this afternoon, and it just so happens to be one of my favorite things! Thanks Sue and Bill!

December 15, Elevator

I find myself feeling slightly excited riding in an elevator...like I am on vacation at a hotel or something. Except this one is at work, and it smells like the elevator that I used to ride in on my way to the dentist's office.

Yesterday was another fine 60+ degree day in Boulder, Colorado, so I went to Chautauqua for a relaxing lunch time hike. I love Chautauqua, and am really excited to be getting married there next year! The arrow is pointing to the Chautauqua green, which will be the ceremony site.

December 12, South Saint Vrain Hike

© Susannah Storch 2010

Since I was too lazy to get up at 5:30 to head up to Summit County for a ski day (and then was a bit bummed after reading the New York Times Travel Section with its skiing focus!), I just had to get outside under the Colorado blue skies. It was a little cool**, but we quickly warmed up hiking in the South Saint Vrain Canyon with the dogs. They got to spend most of the hike off-leash, and as always, it is fun to watch them run free!

**Cool being just about 40 degrees. So far this winter, the average weather for the Front Range is 50s and Colorado blue skies. I don't even bring a winter coat to work every day. Unheard of!

December 11, Army-Navy Craft Party

Navy did it again! And it was quite the craft gathering. In addition to eating lots of chili and guacamole and watching Navy's amazing 98 yard return for a touchdown, we completed our pet embroidery portraits from Kathleen McCafferty's amazing craft book Craft-In: 12 Projects for Your Own Crafty Gatherings (available for only 525 rupees at that website!). So much fun!

I was looking at the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database the other day, and was dismayed to realize how much of my cosmetics/toiletries are rated high for toxicity. Yuck! Check out your products at the Skin Deep website.

Our Christmas tree taken/edited in such a way to make it look rather scary. It looks much less menacing in real life. And it smells good too!

December 6, Leg Lamp

Mr. Parker: Holy smokes. Do... Do you know what this is? This is... A lamp!
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] It was indeed a lamp.
Mr. Parker: Isn't that great? What a great lamp.
Mother: I don't know...
Ralphie as Adult: [narrating] The old man's eyes boggled...
Mr. Parker: Oh WOW!
