February 14, Trek

As I mentioned, we had us a weekend. Yesterday we drove up towards Allenspark where I snowshoed and Rob trekked on his AT skis. The area was gorgeous and Chloe was a happy snow dog. It was one of those days that reminds you how lucky you are to live in Colorado.

February 13, Sayonara Traffic

Rob and I had us quite the weekend. We headed up I-70 to ski (it's been over a month!), and had the best drive ever UNTIL we hit a wall of traffic thanks to Loveland Pass being closed/hourly tunnel closures. Instead of waiting, we deciced to turn around and head to my favorite Colorado location: Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs. Yes! After that, Rob took us to Central City to get our gamble on. We didn't make any money, but stuck around for the $6.99 (thanks to our $10 off coupon) dinner buffet. We were in line at 4 p.m. to be among the first to eat unlimited, highly mediocre crabs legs, friend scallops, cocktail shrimp, and steak. Yes!

In this photo, maybe you can see the line of suckas sitting in I-70 traffic reflected in Rob's sunglasses. No crabs legs for them!

I almost missed finding this heart on the side of the Ras Kassa's, the Ethiopian Restaurant in Boulder.

February 11, Good Old Rob

Yes! Rob let me take a portrait of him in the new studio. When I photograph him, I have to be super quick since his attention span is like 2 seconds long. This is probably really good practice for something, so I am not complaining one bit. Thanks Rob!

February 10, The Jetsons

A church the reminds me of the Jetson's

I moved to Boulder in 2003 (7 years ago already?!). I remember driving in on 36 west for the first time, and coming over the hill after Louisville, and seeing all those mountains--that city with those mountains was going to be my home! I also remember driving down 28th Street, and passing this church right where all the traffic lights start. Every time I drive by it and actually SEE it, I think of the Jetsons cartoon t.v. show. It is so out of place to, especially compared to the condos all around it, and the traffic zooming in and out of the city.

February 9, Boots

A boots photo taken last night in my new studio! Did I mention all the work to move the guest room downstairs, my office to the tv room, and then make the old guest room a studio? Holy smokes, it was a pain. But now it is done, and I can leave out lights, stands, backdrops, etc. Friends, who wants a portrait?!!

I also must mention that this boot photo was taken with my TT1/TT5 PocketWizards transceiver/receiver set. (These are remote controls that allow your flashes to fire off your camera.) I had sworn off using my Canon 580EXII flash with the PocketWizards because the flash never worked reliably, if at all. I thought that perhaps I was doing something wrong, and felt pretty mad at PocketWizard. I knew there was a noise issue with some Canon flashes and the PocketWizards, but because things worked sometimes, I thought that couldn't be the only issue. Ha! When PocketWizard offered a free fix (in the form of the AC5 RF Soft Shield), I jumped on it (well, I didn't find out about the free fix until a couple weeks ago thanks to the Strobist website). My soft shield arrived last week, and when I tested it out last night, I was very pleased. The PocketWizards fired off my Canon Flash and my Quadra Rangers...I didn't have to do anything to make things work. YES! I am so happy with PocketWizard, and cannot wait to experiment further with ETTL options and the Quadra Rangers. Thank you PocketWizard!

It snows in Colorado too! Sure, we may not have had a 30 incher followed by a 20 incher, but we get our fair share...just not this winter. Bring it on!!!
